Taster Courses
Taster courses for the University of London are now available on line. Year 12 students can look at available courses and apply from today. The site is www.london.ac.uk/tasters. These courses are free and therefore, are very popular.
It is extremely useful to attend even if you do not want to go to a London university to study. The taster will give you an insight into studying a particular subject at university. Apply now. Many of the courses are run after AS examinations in the summer. You will need a contact at school and can use my e-mail. dnicholls@shsg.org.
Sixth form options booklet and application form
please send applications to the school or email applications to office@shsg.org or fwatson@shsg.org

The standards of pastoral care and support, developed in the main school, are continued into the sixth form. Each student has a tutor, to whom they can turn to with any issue, whilst their work in monitored on a half termly basis with support and mentoring as appropriate. There is an exceptionally good careers department at their disposal and a range of facilities including two new ICT suites. We are proud of the standards achieved by our sixth formers. Academically our A level results are amongst the best in the country. They are achieved by application and hard work resulting in the vast majority of our students going on to university (97%) or into management training. Students here also undertake community service giving their time to help others but also raising money for a number of local and international charities (over £6000 last year).
How to Apply
Applications are welcome from students who have studied their GCSEs elsewhere. The criteria for entry is essentially an A or B grade at GCSE in the subject you wish to study (or equivalent subjects) and overall 57 points from your best 9 full GCSEs, where A* = 8, A = 7, B = 6, and C = 5.
Internal Students
Students in our year 11 will be interviewed by the Head of Sixth Form or Careers staff and should comply with the above criteria to continue into the sixth form.
External Students
Applicants should phone the school for a prospectus and application form on 01702 588852. Once the form has been completed and returned, an appointment will be made for an interview with the Head of Sixth Form. After the interview the applicant will have the opportunity to look around the school and talk to present sixth formers. References will be sent for from the applicant's present school.
Successful applicants will be invited to the school's sixth form induction days at the end of June where they will get the chance to experience taster lessons, learn about sixth form life and generally get to know the school. In the case of all students consideration is given to those in exceptional circumstances if they do not meet the above criteria. For more information please contact the school.
