ARE YOU LOOKING AFTER SOMEONE ELSE'S CHILD? Important information for Parents, Foster Carers and ProfessionalsFINANCE: Finance Controls Assurance Statement

Does your child have a part-time job out of school hours?Young people often want a part-time job while still at school, and this can be a great opportunity - it helps them gain extra pocket money, learn about managing their own finances, and can give them excellent experience of working life that will benefit them later on.
However, up until the last Friday of June during the year in which a child turns sixteen, there are various restrictions in law on the type and amount of work that a young person can undertake.
Furthermore, if your child is carrying out any kind of work, they must be registered with the local authority, who will issue them with a permit (at no cost to you or the employer). This will enable the local authority to ensure that the employment is properly regulated and your children are safe and free from exploitation at work.
For more detailed information on Child Employment, contact your local Child Employment Officer on 01702 215007. Alternatively you can download a leaflet at

There have been some changes to the government guidelines for carers; a new information leaflet has been produced and copies are available from the School Reception.
